Birth of John the Baptist
Interwoven Gospels

Now the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth to be delivered, and she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and kindred heard that the Lord had magnified His mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. And it came to pass, on the eighth day, they came to circumcise the infant, and they were about to call him Zachariah, after the name of his father. And his mother, answered and said, "Nay; but he shall be called John." And they said to her, "There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name." Then they made signs to his father, what he wished him to be called. And asking for a writing tablet, he wrote, saying, "John is his name." And they were all astonished. Then his mouth was opened immediately and his tongue loosed, and he spake, blessing God. And fear came upon all those dwelling around them. And in all the hill-country of Judea, all these sayings were told abroad; and all that heard laid them up in their heart, saying, "What then shall this little child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him.
